Do you love figuring out people and what makes them tick? There’s no other industry that allows you to dive into the minds of your consumers and understand what influences every single decision-making process when it comes to purchasing and engagement, other than advertising and design. If you are wondering if this is the right major for you, read on and let’s find out!
There’s a plethora of career options
Joining advertising and design might seem very niche or focused, but when you think about it, there are many opportunities and departments within this major itself. If you like strategising and planning, you could be part of the accounts management team. If you lean more towards the creative side, then being a copywriter or graphic designer may be the right fit for you. Are you more of a researcher, negotiator and simply love figuring out which media platform to use for each campaign? Why not study to become a media planner!
It’s an exciting lifestyle
Joining advertising and design is different from any other industry. You will meet interesting and like-minded people who go out of their way to tap into the creative side. Work is not your standard 9-5. You would find yourself out of the office most of the time, especially if you are working as an Account Executive for your agency. Expect to meet a lot of new people and expand your network at the same time.
There is extra recognition
Aside from getting your monthly pay, a career in advertising and design also means extra recognition. The Association of Accredited Advertising Agents Malaysia (4As Malaysia), a body that represents the value of agencies in Malaysia runs the Kancil Awards annually which pits the best advertising agencies against each other for the title of best agency. You will always stand a chance to get credit for your work and maybe even receive a couple of trophies for it along the way!
The industry is constantly evolving
With the rise of new programmes and apps, the advertising and design industry will continue to evolve rapidly. As long as trading exists, there will always be opportunities for advertising which provides job security.
