      COURSE MODULES

      Year 1

      Introduction to Tourism

      This module is an introduction to all facets of tourism including the history and types of tourism; covering tourist types and behaviour, factors influencing the tourism industry, tourism in Malaysia, sustainable tourism, and forecasting future trends. You will also earn a microcredential from Yonsei University.

      Introduction to Hotel Management

      This module will involve discussions on the nature of hotel business, the type and classification of hotels, the set-up and operational workflow of a hotel. You will be challenged throughout to realise that in building a career in hospitality, you are building your own business and a way of life as well. You will also earn a microcredential from Università Bocconi Milan Italy.

      Food Production

      This module will involve theory and practical sessions to furnish you with information on kitchen operations, distinguishing the commonly used kitchen utensils and equipment for food preparation. You will be exposed to ‘hands-on skills’ based on the basic cooking principles learnt. 

      Introduction to Management

      This module will expose you to the principles of management. Upon completion, you will be able to understand and define management perspectives in relation to planning, organising, motivation, leading, control, communication, and quality. You will also earn a microcredential from the Institute of Certified Professional Managers .

      Hospitality Human Resource Management

      This module is designed to enhance your understanding of the aspects of managing human resources in both public service and private sector environment which is constantly changing. It provides an overview of human resource management, with particular emphasis on human resource planning and strategy, personnel selection, equal employment opportunity, training and development, performance appraisal, compensation, employee relations, and contemporary issues. You will also earn a microcredential from the University of Minnesota.

      Business English

      This module develops communication skills in a business context. 

      Food Nutrition, Safety & Hygiene

      This module will provide you with the requisite knowledge of nutrition. You will also learn specific food handling controls related to the receipt, storage, processing and displaying of food. There are also areas covered on the health and hygiene of food handlers & the cleaning and maintenance of food equipment. You will also earn a microcredential from the University of Copenhagen.

      Food & Beverage Service

      This module is designed to help you improve and better understand the food service industry. 

      Travel Agency Management

      This module shows the technical skills and the procedures of setting up a travel agency, and administrative procedures of managing a travel agency, namely the operations and functions of different departments. It also explains the importance of human relation skills for students to excel in this tourism industry. You will also earn a microcredential from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.

      Introduction to Marketing

      This module provides an overview of the theories and principles of marketing required for effective business practice. It introduces the marketing function of an organisation. The focus is on how organisations identify the needs and buying behaviour of their target markets and develop a marketing mix (comprising product, price, promotion, and placement) to satisfy the needs and wants of these markets. You will also earn a microcredential from the IE Business School, Spain.

      Principles of Accounting

      This module provides the basics to the financial accounting courses series. The topics discussed focus on the introduction to financial accounting, the accounting cycle, recording process and presentation of financial accounting. You will also earn a microcredential from the University of Virginia.

      Front Office Operations

      This module introduces you to the systems and procedures required for Front Office Operations using property managing software in managing guest requests. It provides an overview of the functions and supervisory aspects of the front office department. You will develop knowledge and skills in departmental procedures as well as understanding key legislations. 

      Front Office Management

      This course will cover the aspect of managing skills of front office resources and utilizing operational reports to achieve guest satisfaction and profitability. You will also learn about the importance of interdepartmental communications and how to design, create, formulate and construct the front office manual.

      Year 2

      Hotel & Tourism Marketing

      This module explores practices and issues of marketing management and its application in the hospitality industry. You will also earn a microcredential from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.

      Tour Planning & Management

      This module explains itinerary planning, tour costing, tour guiding skills and management of passengers on tour. It also shows the procedures for dealing with problems during a tour such as loss of baggage, flight delays, illness, accidents, etc. You will also earn a microcredential from Johns Hopkins University.

      Hotel & Tourism Industrial Training

      This industrial training at selected hotels or travel/tourism organisations is adopted to expose you to the various aspects of hotel operations - training in front office, reservation, reception, concierge, housekeeping, restaurant, food production and back-office support. 

      Tourism Destination Planning & Development

      This course will cover the aspect of tourism planning and development, theories, impact of tourism development, sustainable tourism development and destination planning. You will also learn about the future of tourism industry and how to prepare yourself to accommodate future growth and meet tomorrow’s challenges. You will also earn a microcredential from the University of Virginia.

      Legal Aspects of the Hospitality Industry

      This module examines the legal environment of the hospitality industry. It is designed to help you understand that while good hospitality management means satisfying patrons and guests, it also encompasses protecting the business from the kinds of accidents and incidents that can lead to lawsuits. You will also earn a microcredential from the University of Maryland.

      Housekeeping Management

      This module presents a systematic approach to managing housekeeping operations and provides a thorough overview, from the big picture of maintaining quality staff, to planning, organising, and the technical details of cleaning each area of a hospitality facility. 

      Computer Information System

      This module explains information system management including concepts and strategic uses of information systems, organising, and managing inter-organisational and international information systems, decision making, risks analysis and project management. You will also earn a microcredential from the University of London.

      Year 3

      Economics

      This module discusses the basic economic theories, price mechanism, consumer choices, production theories, market structures and international trade in the tourism industry context. It shows the application of the basic tools that economists use to understand the decisions of consumers and firms. These tools create a framework for evaluating the costs and benefits to society of various market structures and public policy interventions. You will also earn a microcredential from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.

      Sustainable Tourism

      This module provides you with a wide understanding of environmental issues and its impacts on the tourism industry. The natural and cultural environments of communities and global destinations will be explored to critically interpret tourism dependency and the changes for the better of sustainable tourism. You will also earn a microcredential from the University of Copenhagen, Denmark.

      MPU MODULES

      Privatisation in Malaysia

      This module is intended to provide you with an overview of the privatisation process in Malaysia covering history, policy, reasons, success criteria, problems, challenges, and the future of privatisation in Malaysia.

      Malaysian Studies II / Bahasa Melayu Komunikasi 1

      Malaysian Studies II discusses Malaysian history and politics, the constitution, systems and structure of national administration, society, national unity and development, and religious faiths. This course aims to produce graduates who have a national identity and superior patriotism.  In Bahasa Melayu Komunikasi 1, international students are taught the basics of the Malay language to help in their daily communication. They will also learn to read, write, and understand simple sentences and paragraphs in Malay.

      Bahasa Kebangsaan A / People Skills

      Bahasa Kebangsaan A helps you grasp the national language to effectively communicate, and express thoughts clearly and creatively through verbal and written communication. People Skills focuses on honing your interpersonal communication, which is critical to your success in personal and work relationships. This includes social skills and emotional intelligence, effective interpersonal communication beginning with self-awareness and the development of emotional maturity necessary to remain calm and empathetic in routine as well as in difficult communication situations.

      Community Service Project

      You will learn how to perform a community needs assessment, select a project, solidify financial and logistical plans, map the project, and detail the project plan so that you can implement a high-impact, well-managed community service initiative.

      This is a comprehensive programme designed to provide you with the knowledge and skills needed to pursue a degree in hospitality, tourism, event management and its related fields. Upon successful completion of this programme, you can proceed to pursue a 3+0 degree programme in Hospitality, Tourism, Event and Business offered by Reliance College.

      Diploma in Event Management

      The Reliance Diploma in Event Management will provide you with vital knowledge and skills to manage both physical and virtual events. Events are diverse in nature, and this qualification provides you with a pathway to work for event or exhibition organisations operating in a range of sectors, including tourism and travel, hospitality, retails, sports, and cultural, amongst others.

      Diploma in Business Management

      This course provides you with a solid foundation in business and management to help you understand and learn how to think, strategise and manage businesses.
