      Year 1

      Educational Philosophy

      This course includes the study of the development of Western and Eastern philosophies of education. The historical development of the Malaysian education system, the National Education Philosophy, and the different curriculars in Malaysia will be explored. Additionally, the Malaysian Teacher Education Philosophy will be discussed and examined in the context of Malaysia's development in education.

      Educational Psychology

      This module will introduce students to how people learn, including teaching methods, instructional processes, and individual differences in learning. It explores the cognitive, behavioral, emotional, and social influences on the learning process. This understanding is important to develop instructional strategies and help children succeed in school.

      Child Growth and Care

      Knowledge of essential child care and proper practice is important for the survival, growth, and development of babies. This course is aimed to train students on the essential caring for babies.

      Early Learning and Early Environment

      This module discusses the importance of conducive environment, health and safety principles according to child’s development. It involves the appropriate use of materials and digital resources in early learning curriculum delivery.

      Educational Sociology

      This course focuses on the basic concepts of sociology and sociology of education, social stratifications and social institutions, socio-cultural development at schools and institutions, social mobility, and changes in education. Additionally, the integration of a culturally diverse environment in education is addressed.

      Managing Child Behaviour

      This course will help students develop a critical understanding and application of the learning, education and development of children in the contexts of Early Childhood Education. It focuses on theory into guiding practices for children’s strengths, abilities and interests highlighting the significance of relationships and attachment, care routines and planning cycles for the teaching and learning for children development.

      Observation and Assessment in Early Childhood Education

      This module explores the strategies of observing and assessing processes as a means of studying the development of children. Students will be introduced to systematic methods of observation and assessment to establish nurturing relationships with a non-threatening approach.

      Partnering with Families and Community in Early Childhood Education

      This course will introduce you to the ideas and tools needed to enhance and improve practice in the area of family and community engagement. Students will be introduced to research linking family and community engagement to improved learning outcomes

      Ethics and Professionalism in Early Childhood Education

      The purpose of the course is to prep students with ethics and professionalism guidelines for Early Childhood Education professionals. This includes common basic values in Early Childhood Education and descriptions of good practices.

      Computer Application

      This course helps students to develop an understanding of general concepts and practices and the technological environment of the organisation. It encourages a systematic understanding and approach to the use of computers in organisation, and the technical environment to support the practical aspects of information provision and use.

      Year 2

      Curriculum Development

      This course discusses the key concepts and principles in the applications of curriculum development. The course underlines the philosophical, psychological and social elements required for the development of an effective curriculum. Students will also learn to design and develop a curriculum plan taking into consideration current concerns such as technological development, education reformation, entrepreneurship requirements and benchmarking with international curriculum needs.

      Child Psychology

      This module examines the basic concepts and mechanisms inherent in the process of human development from conception to adolescence. It examines the biological, intellectual, social, emotional and moral aspects of development through a stage-developmental framework. Emphasis of the course is on normal growth and development.

      English for Young Children

      This module offers an overview development of the English language, communication, literacy and listening skills in young children. It emphasizes on language and literacy theories and activities, teachers’ approach, and strategy to incorporate appropriate materials and digital resources to promote language and literacy development in Early Childhood Education.

      Mathematics for Young Children

      This module introduces early Mathematics concepts and skills to students. It enables them to plan developmentally appropriate Mathematics learning through daily routine and activities. It also encourages them to prepare materials and digital resources, create an active learning environment that fosters curiosity and confidence.

      Pedagogy in Early Childhood Education

      This module is critical for students who wish to improve their understanding on the concepts and key principles in pedagogy and learning design. Students will develop critical thinking, problem-solving and cognitive skills by applying theories and methods in designing and improving learning experiences. This course also covers discussion on the evolving trends of technological development in the education landscape.

      Curriculum and Instruction in Early Childhood Education

      Curriculum and Instruction in Early Childhood Education provides students with a comprehensive enactment of curriculum and theories. It discusses developmentally appropriate planning, evaluating and modifying Early Childhood Education curriculum design.

      Music and Movement for Young Children

      This module introduces students to the world of teaching music, drama and movement in the early childhood classroom. It demonstrates how powerful the learning areas of music, drama and movement are in respect to accessing other learning areas. It also provides a knowledge base for the deeper understanding of theory, application methodologies, practical activities and the significance of music, drama and movement in the Early Childhood curriculum.

      Science for Young Children

      This module introduces students to the world of teaching Science and exploring their development through materials and digital resources delivery of early learning curriculum. Instruction, curriculum and strategies are discussed to assist students in becoming effective and competent Science teachers.

      Spiritual and Moral in Early Childhood Education

      This module focuses on fundamental values, key concepts on moral, social and spiritual inculcated in young learners. It helps students to form effective interpersonal skills, discuss different approaches and activities to teach and integrate moral values within social and culture diversity.

      Art and Craft for Young Children

      This module introduces students to the world of teaching art in the early childhood classroom. It addresses a child’s creative process to deepen the understanding of the development for the student. It reflects on the issues that affect children’s responses to creativity expression and examines the areas of learning to enhance the curriculum meaning for children.

      *Electives (Choose 1 stream)

      *Online Teaching for Young Children - This module will build knowledge and skills needed in the foundations of technology-based teaching and learning in the Early Childhood Education context. Students will be exposed to a range of digital technologies which support teaching and learning. This includes the learning of and about resources and digital applications for preschool online teaching and learning.

      *Cognitive Psychology - This module is the study of mental processes: understanding how the mind works. Students will be introduced to all of the key concepts in the field of cognitive psychology including perception, attention, memory, decision making and much more. Cognitive psychology effect how children think, explore and figure things out.

      *Emerging Trends and Technologies K-12 - This module will help students evaluate and implement technology in the most useful way within their virtual classroom setting. This course discusses the possibilities and challenges of using technology in fully online environments.

      Year 3

      E-learning Ecologies

      In this module, students will learn best practices of e-learning ecologies including online instruction, student engagement, sustaining online learning communities, effective uses of synchronous and asynchronous technologies, and development of online assessments to foster student engagement and individualized student performance. Students will also learn about technology adoption in the Asian and Western contexts.

      Measurement and Evaluation

      This module introduces students to the key concepts and principles of testing, measurement, assessment, and evaluation. It also covers assessment techniques in determining the effectiveness of various assessment approaches focusing on reliability, validity and item analysis. Various statistical procedures are also presented in the analysis of assessment results and their interpretations.

      Health, Safety and Nutrition in Early Childhood Education

      This module focuses on the aspects of health, safety, and nutrition for young children. The topics covered are policies and procedures of nutrition; basic concepts of food and nutrients, safety, and maximizing the child’s potential through health.

      Bahasa Melayu Awal Kanak kanak

      Thismodule offers an overview development of the Bahasa Melayu language, communication, literacy and listening skills in young children. It emphasizes on language and literacy theories and activities, teachers’ approach, and strategy to incorporate appropriate materials and digital resources to promote language and literacy development in Early Childhood Education.

      Action Research in Education

      This module addresses concepts and key principles in action research and the processes and procedures for conducting action research. Students will also be exposed to the fundamental research techniques in problem identification, data collection and data analysis leading to the development of an action research plan as part of the assessment component.

      Young Children with Special Needs

      Young Children with Special needs provide students with pertinent information about this specific area. This course guides students through identification, modifying activities, assessment and extra support that is essential in dealing with the issues of special needs and gifted children as well as equipping the students to provide effective and influential education to these diverse needs of children.

      Leadership and Advocacy in Early Childhood Education

      This module provides students with an understanding of the responsibilities and challenges of being a professional leader in Early Childhood Education. It focuses on models and theories of leadership and management of Early Childhood Education services.

      Programme Planning and Development in Early Childhood Education Settings

      This module is designed to introduce students to the principles and models for programme planning and development in Early Childhood Education. Students will be taught different types of curriculum, organizational systems, including theories, covering the various Early Childhood Education approaches to the scheduling and evaluation for continuous programme improvement.

      *Electives (Choose 1 stream)

      *Google and Cloud Computing - This course introduces students to key concepts and principles of cloud computing from an educational standpoint. This course covers cloud computing models, and cloud products from other vendors. Finally, students will also learn application of cloud computing in education and proceed to evaluate cloud computing security issues and challenges.

      *Abnormal Psychology - This module provides students with knowledge on the link between personality theory and some of the common mental health problems identified for children and adults, for example stress, depression, eating disorders, substance abuse, suicide. It also introduces clinical intervention within a developmental framework.

      *Regulations, Licensing and Law in Education - This module addresses ethics in Education as well as issues related to health, safety and nutrition regulations including first aid, communicable disease, safety policies and practices. Reporting and recognizing child abuse is addressed. Students will learn to respond to regulations, licensing and laws that impact programs for young children.

      *Instructional Technology for Teachers - This module introduces foundational theories, ideas, and histories that are essential for developing expertise in the field of instructional technology. Students will be given opportunities to synthesize and apply what they learn in ways that are meaningful and productive for their professional interests. Students will be provided opportunity to integrate and apply what they have learned in a meaningful and effective ways for their professional goals.

      *Counselling for Children - The purpose of this module is to help students understand the processes of child development and to apply this knowledge to provide a developmental guidance programme, including counselling services, that meets the needs of all children. Students need to understand human diversity and apply it in counselling and guidance so that the programme is responsive to all children. This would also assist student in understanding the different factors involve in children development and achievement.

      *Teaching Impacts of Technology in Early Childhood Education - This focus on the fundamentals of teaching the impacts of technology in nursery and preschool settings, starting by exploring how teacher interact with and benefit from technology, exploring impact of technologies and computing.

      Practicum (TASKA)

      Practicum serves as the culminating experience where students demonstrate the knowledge, skills and dispositions addressed in all programme’s courses. Students need to complete a 8 weeks full-time practicum in a TASKA.

      MPU Modules

      Year 1

      Penghayatan Etika dan Peradaban / Apprieciation of Ethics and Civilization (Local Students)

      This course prepares students to appreciate the ethics and civilization that exists in the multi-ethnic society in Malaysia to strengthen their critical and analytical thinking to deal with a more challenging life. The content of this course focuses on the appreciation of ethics and civilization in the Malaysian mold. Students will be exposed to the dynamics of the concept of ethics and civilization which is a strength to the formation of Malaysia based on the timeline of its historical evolution from pre-colonial to post-colonial era.

      Bahasa Melayu Komunikasi 2 / Malay Language for Communication (International Students)

      The objective of this course is to enable expatriates to converse in Bahasa Malaysia at functional level, as well as providing insight into ways of Malaysian life as language is the best reflection of culture.

      Philosophy of Current Issues

      This course covers the relation between philosophy and the National Education Philosophy, and the National Principles of Malaysia (Rukun Negara). Philosophy is used as a tool to refine the culture of thought in life through the art and methods of thinking as well as through the understanding of the concept of the human person. Key fields in philosophy, namely epistemology, metaphysics, and ethics, are discussed in the context of current issues. Emphasis is given to philosophy as the basis for inter-cultural dialogue and fostering common values. At the end of this course, students will gain insights regarding the disciplines of study as a comprehensive and integrated body of knowledge.

      Year 2

      Community Service 2

      The Community Service module provides an opportunity to develop a better understanding of the role civic activities have in society, to contribute to a community service or charity, and to learn and apply the principles of the numerous components of marketing management. It allows students to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary in planning, organising, implementing, and evaluating a community service project.
